Healthcare Access, Inclusion and Representation

SHEA is committed to promoting accessible and safe healthcare for all. Through research, education, and collaboration, we work to address barriers to care and support initiatives that foster representation and inclusion across healthcare settings.

Our Commitment

SHEA is dedicated to providing fair opportunities and access to all individuals regardless of race, color, ethnic or national origin, gender, gender identity or expression, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion, citizenship, or veteran status.

We are committed to cultivating leadership, membership, and programming that reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. This includes representation within SHEA’s committees, conference speakers, and guidelines panels.

SHEA promotes research and practices that reduce inequities in care by addressing the effects of racism, discrimination, and marginalization within antimicrobial stewardship and healthcare epidemiology.

We promote a professional environment and code of conduct that includes equitable and nonjudgmental treatment of SHEA members and the communities they serve.

About the CHAIR Committee

The Committee for Healthcare Access, Inclusion and Representation (CHAIR) leads SHEA’s efforts to build a more inclusive organization and strengthen representation across healthcare epidemiology. The committee focuses on measurable goals that align with SHEA’s strategic plan, including membership, education, leadership development, and research initiatives. CHAIR collaborates with SHEA committees, journals, and leadership to identify opportunities to improve representation, address barriers to participation, and ensure SHEA activities reflect experiences and perspectives in the communities served by our membership.
