The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) is pleased to announce that David J. Weber, MD, MPH, a distinguished leader in infection prevention and healthcare epidemiology, will serve as the 2025 SHEA Board of Trustees President beginning January 1, 2025. Dr. Weber will succeed Dr. Tom Talbot, continuing SHEA’s mission to promote safe healthcare practices and reduce the burden of healthcare-associated infections worldwide.
Dr. Weber brings an exceptional depth of knowledge and leadership experience to this role. He currently serves as the Charles Addison and Elizabeth Ann Sanders Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics, Professor of Epidemiology, Associate Chief Medical Officer, UNC Medical Center, and Medical Director, Department of Infection Prevention, UNC Medical Center, where he has led significant advancements in the science and prevention of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). With decades of experience in research, education, and clinical practice, Dr. Weber has been a steadfast advocate for evidence-based solutions to combat emerging infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance.
“It is an honor to step into this leadership position at SHEA,” said Dr. Weber. “As we face evolving challenges in infection prevention and public health, I look forward to collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders to advance SHEA’s vision of safe healthcare for all.”
Dr. Weber’s presidency will coincide with a pivotal time in infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship, as the field continues to address the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, prepare for future infectious disease outbreaks, and advance antimicrobial stewardship initiatives. His commitment to innovation and collaboration will strengthen SHEA’s ability to shape policies, support education, elevate the field, and foster partnerships.
