Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology (ICHE) and Antimicrobial Stewardship & Healthcare Epidemiology (ASHE)

Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology (ICHE) and Antimicrobial Stewardship & Healthcare Epidemiology (ASHE) are seeking enthusiastic Social Media Editors to join their Editorial Teams.

These volunteer positions offer an opportunity to increase the visibility and impact of the journals by promoting newly published research and engaging with the healthcare epidemiology, infection prevention, and antimicrobial stewardship communities through social media.

Working closely with the Editor-in-Chief, Editorial Office, and SHEA communications staff, each Social Media Editor will help maintain an active and engaging social media presence for their assigned journal while serving as a member of the Editorial Team.

Responsibilities

The Social Media Editor will:

  • Promote newly published articles through the journal’s social media channels (approximately 3–5 posts per week).
  • Create engaging graphics using Canva or other design tools (templates and branding will be provided) and share author-submitted visual abstracts when appropriate.
  • Promote editorials, special collections, podcasts, calls for papers, awards, and other journal initiatives.
  • Tag authors, institutions, partner organizations, and SHEA when appropriate to maximize visibility and engagement.
  • Use relevant hashtags and platform best practices to increase the reach of journal content.
  • Repost and amplify author and institutional posts featuring ICHE publications.
  • Monitor comments and direct messages, responding when appropriate or referring inquiries to the Editorial Office.
  • Attend Editorial Team meetings and provide updates on social media activities and engagement metrics.
  • Serve as an active member of the Editorial Team by identifying opportunities to enhance the journal’s digital presence and suggesting new approaches to promoting journal content.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

  • Have an interest in healthcare epidemiology, infection prevention, antimicrobial stewardship, or a related field.
  • Be active on social media and familiar with professional scientific communication.
  • Have strong written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Be comfortable using Canva or similar design software (or be willing to learn).

Experience in scientific publishing, social media management, or science communication is desirable but not required.

We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds and career stages. Early-career professionals with an interest in scientific publishing are especially encouraged to apply.

In order to apply, please send your CV and cover letter to Lindsay MacMurray, Director Publications, SHEA (lmacmurray@shea-online.org) by September 15, 2026.

In your cover letter, please indicate whether you are applying for the ICHE position, the ASHE position, or would like to be considered for either journal.
