The authors launched a performance improvement initiative to increase patient adherence with CHG cloth bathing on a surgical, non-ICU patient care area. To improve staff buy-in, education, patient scripting, and “badge buddy” information was provided. At the end of the project modest improvements were noted in the proportion patient refusals documented (23% to 8%) and in CLABSI reductions (0.69 to 0.65 CLABSIS per 1000 line days). The authors concluded that added additional efforts are needed to improve compliance.
