  • Senate and House appropriations heard from CDC, FDA, DHS, State, OMB, and other federal agencies on February 12 regarding COVID-19. The administration officials who were present say they don't see a need to ask Congress for more funding for the coronavirus outbreak response, but Senate appropriators asked for spending projections to assess whether emergency funding is needed. Senate Labor-HHS Chairman Roy Blunt (R-MO) asked the officials to provide information "right away" about how much has been spent and what is anticipated to be spent over the next 60 days. He said it's "possible" Congress might need to provide supplemental funding but he and ranking member Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), both emphasized that more information would be needed.
