David Banach, MD, MPH
Dr. David Banach is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine where he serves as Head of Infection Prevention and Hospital Epidemiologist for UConn Health.
He graduated from UConn School of Medicine with a combined MD/MPH degree and completed residencies in Internal Medicine and Preventive Medicine and a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. During his fellowship he completed a Master’s Degree in Clinical Research focusing on the epidemiology of multidrug-resistant organisms.
Dr. Banach is a member of the SHEA Guidelines Committee and currently serves as co-chair of the Durations of Contact Precautions expert guidance document. Most recently, he has been involved with the SHEA/CDC Outbreak Response Training Program (ORTP) as co-chair of the expert guidance panel. The ORTP is designed to provide US hospital epidemiologists with the tools and training necessary to effectively lead in order to protect patients and healthcare workers during public health emergencies and facility outbreaks. He has also served as a liaison between SHEA and the CDC Emerging Infections Program Healthcare Associated Infection Community Interface projects. His research interests focus on the epidemiology of healthcare-associated infections and infection prevention strategies in immunocompromised patient populations including organ transplant recipients and patients with cancer.
