The first official joint workshop endorsed by the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) and the Japanese Society for Infection Prevention and Control (JSIPC) was held at the 31st Annual Meeting of Japanese Society for Infection Prevention and Control, on February 20, 2016 in Kyoto, Japan.

The workshop included a lecture on strategies to develop an effective antimicrobial stewardship program, provided by Dr. Steven Gordon at Cleveland Clinic. This was followed by group discussion and an interactive session with Dr. Gordon. Approximately 30 people including physicians, clinical pharmacists, and infection control nurses attended. The workshop was a great success. Both societies have agreed to have further collaborative opportunities related to infection prevention, antimicrobial stewardship, and healthcare epidemiology. Watch for more coming soon!
